Each student has different needs. You may want the flexibility to work from any location at your own pace over the internet. Or, you may want a more traditional paper-based program. Or, you may want the structure of an instructor led class, where you can interact with other students studying the same material at the same time. This page will help you identify the best delivery method for your unique situation.
These courses are primarily paper-based and are used with many of our students who come into our three centres. However, we can also mail, fax, or email worksheets to students at a distance who have dial-up internet. These courses are asynchronous, meaning that students can start at any time and work at their own pace.
Students use textbooks to complete worksheets which are submitted in person, by mail, fax, or email. Exams are paper-based and usually hand written. They must be invigilated by a teacher or responsible adult and sent to Continuing Education when completed.
These courses are primarily online courses and are used in our Adult Education and Distributed Learning programs. They are asynchronous, meaning that students can start at any time and work at their own pace.
Most materials such as readings, illustrations, videos, quizzes and tests are available online. Textbooks are still required for reading and reference in these courses. Students download assignments and submit these online or by attaching documents to emails sent to your instructor. Exams are usually completed online and must be invigilated by a teacher or responsible adult. Students taking CoolSchool courses require highspeed internet and plugins such as Flash and Acrobat to view videos and download assignments.
These courses start at specific times and are instructor led. Students work at the same pace as other students in the course. Students still have the flexibility of working from any location in the province with these courses. They are just expected to connect with their class at specific times and complete assignments on schedule. English Literature 12 is our best example of a synchronous course.
